Ramapo College is the closest college with residential housing to the Appalachian Trail and was the site of the Ramapo 2007 Biennial Conference. Here is an overview map of the location in the NYC metro area and the campus map. A lot of activities will be held in the Bill Bradley Sports and Recreation Center in the center of the map, with dorms (Bishoff and Mackin) to the northeast and workshops in the academic buildings (G and ASB) to the east. Camping will be in the field across Cherry Lane from the Bradley Center. Hikes will leave from the parking lot (also RV camping) just south of the Bradley Center. Meals will be in the Bradley Center.
Why pick Ramapo College as the site of A.T. Vista 2020. Simple! From the parking lot, it is a 5 minute walk to the New York-New Jersey Trail Confernence office which is adjacent to Ramapo Valley County Reservation with extensive hiking opportunities. Ramapo Reservation connects to even more miles of trails in Ramapo Mountain State Forest and Ringwood State Park. You truly don't need a car. Its hard to get much closer to the AT than at Ramapo College. The closest AT hikes are from the Elk Pen parking in Arden, NY, 16 miles, 22 minutes. Agony Grind is southbound and the Lemon Squezzer northbound from Route 17. It is 22 miles, 34 minutes to the AT crossing of Warwick Turnpike in Wawayanda State Park. It is 22 miles, 31 minutes to Lakes Road Crossing near Fitzgerald Falls. Delaware Water Gap and High Point Monument are a little over an hour's drive. To the north Fahnestock State Park is a little under an hour's drive and an hour and 20 minutes to the CT/NY line.
